From North-South to East-West

I just wrapped up a week in Singapore, including spending a few days at Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada’s Canada-in-Asia conference, and meeting with a few organizations on the ground.

I’m continuing to unpack what the state of decarbonization is in Asia - this includes how we in Canada can enhance east-west bridges, leveraging the demand for our knowledge and skills in resources and infrastructure, including expertise specific to carbon, but also what we can learn from Asian countries’ approaches to decarbonization as well.

There is real opportunity sitting across the Pacific from Canada both for human and financial capital.

I think the most telling moment of the week for me came from Bernie Derible, representing Ontario in Asia. His pointed suggestion was - as meaningful as they have been - to stop repeating Prime Minister Carney’s words around trade diversification, and instead, direct our attention to act on them.
